Nutritious Rice for the World is trying to solve the global problem of hunger and malnutrition by breeding better rice strains. Rather than creating hybrids at random, the project seeks to learn the function of each rice gene, so that agronomists can select more subtle cross-breeding candidates, selecting for traits such as high yield, disease resistance, and nutrient content.
